While researching an ocean book in 2004, she became involved in the extreme research journey the University of Delaware takes to the hydrothermal vents at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. She spent one month at sea on the R/V Atlantis dove to the bottom of the ocean in a little submarine called Alvin. DANIEL RAVEN-ELLISON is a National Geographic Emerging Explorer and guerilla geographer. He's a lead partner in The Geography Collective, a group of educators and geographers who produce books, websites, and events, to inspire kids about the world around them.
