Gordon Blackwood was born in Bramhall, Cheshire and educated at Wrekin College, Shropshire. He holds a B.A. (Hons) degree from Bristol University and B.Litt. and D. Phil degrees from Oxford University. He is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and author of `The Lancashire Gentry and the Great Rebellion, 1640-60.' Dr Blackwood has also had over twenty articles published in historical journals. Before taking early retirement he was for twelve years Head of History at Felixstowe College.
