The Turning Tide by Brooke Magnanti

Erykah Macdonald has a nice life - the kind of life you're meant to want. But on her twentieth wedding anniversary, she's about to cross a line. Several hundred miles away in the shallow waters of a Hebridean island, a body is found. It's been in the water long enough to make identification tricky but it's clear this is no accidental death. Erykah knows she's about to make a choice you can't reverse - but she's lived with secrets most of her life - she thinks she's ready. The trouble is, there are far worse secrets than her own about to emerge. From the gurney of a morgue in the Highlands, to the media circus of the national press, and from the seemingly calm suburbs of London to the powerplays in Westminster, a net is tightening. And those that find themselves caught in are willing to kill to get out with reputations intact. Erykah must work out what she's capable of if she's going to keep her head above water - she must leave behind her comfortable life and start breaking rules. She knows she should be scared...but sometimes, stepping over the line is the first step to freedom...
A final prospect to get the blood pumping is THE TURNING TIDE.. the first crime novel from Brooke Magnanti, aka Belle de Jour. * SUNDAY EXPRESS *
she uses her professional know-how to detail shockingly gruesome scenes at the morgue in a mystery that begins with a decomposing body in a bag in a Hebridean loch but spins a web of real-life strands of political chicanery, greed and lies galore. * PETERBOROUGH EVENING TELEGRAPH *
Magnanti's writing is lively and entertaining. When her victims are laid out on that slab, her unspeakably detailed descriptions are good enough to put the wind up Patricia Cornwell. * THE TIMES *
...this is a clever, satirical thriller from the author of the Belle De Jour books. * DAILY EXPRESS *
...a helter-skelter of a book * GUARDIAN *

Brooke Magnanti received a Ph.D. in Forensic Pathology from the University of Sheffield, where she studied in the Medico Legal Centre and specialised in the identification of decomposed human remains. She later worked for the NHS in child health research and cancer epidemiology, before being revealed in 2009 as the anonymous author of the award-winning blog Belle de Jour and bestselling Secret Diary of a Call Girl series of books. She lives on the West Coast of Scotland with her husband and hardly ever sees dead people any more. Visit her website at http://www.brookemagnanti.com, and follow her on Twitter @belledejour_uk
