The Twelve Foot Neon Woman by Loretta Collins Klobah

Rooted in Puerto Rico, these well-crafted poems - in Spanish-speckled English -also explore experience in other parts of the Caribbean, and Latin America, the USA and England. Loretta Collins Klobah manages an impressive range of forms in these meditations on history, art, love, suffering and spirituality. The mood, occasionally indignant, is most often compassionate and celebratory. The Twelve-Foot Neon Woman is a remarkable contribution to Caribbean literature.
Loretta Collins Klobah is the author of two poetry collections, The Twelve Foot Neon Woman (Peepal Tree Press, 2011) which received the OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean poetry and was short-listed for the Forward’s Felix Dennis Prize, and most recently, Ricantations. She has received the Pushcart Prize, the Earl Lyons Award from The Academy of American Poets, and the Pam Wallace Award for an Aspiring Woman Writer. Her poems have been widely published in journals and anthologies. She lives in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she is a professor of Caribbean literature and creative writing at the University of Puerto Rico.
