Twelve Labours of Hercules by James Riordan

Everyone has heard of Hercules - but few can name the feats of strength that made him the greatest of mortal men. Now, James Riordan's bold retellings of the ancient Greek legends re-create the labours of Zeus' much-loved son and mythology's mightiest hero. Christina Balit's powerful illustrations, which include a map showing the sites of Hercules' twelve labours, combine with James Riordan's retellings to create a heroic anthology that children will reach for again and again.
James Riordan travelled the world collecting folktales and published over thirty volumes of tales from different countries. The Twelve Labours of Hercules won the UK Reading Association Award 1998. He was Emeritus Professor at the University of Surry and Visiting Professor at the University of Worcester, as well as holding honorary degrees from Birmingham, London, Moscow and Grenoble. He regularly reviewed children's books for The Times., and his autobiography, Comrade Jim: the spy who played for Spartak, was published in 2008 by Fourth Estate.
