Tyne Waters by Michael Marshall
The story of the river Tyne, threatened by industrial pollution in the 19th century, apparently polluted beyond recall during the ship-building era and now miraculously reborn after much expenditure. Its waters are clean for the first time this century and host to thousands of returning salmon.
