Uganda by Philip Briggs

Uganda's natural history is legendary. This guide provides detailed coverage of all the species, including the rare mountain gorillas and an amazing 1000 types of bird. As well as covering a wealth of practical information, this guide details every aspect of Uganda's tourist infrastructure, from national parks and gorilla reserves to Lake Victoria and the Ssese Islands, as well as where to stay and what to eat, making it a useful guide for any visitor to the region.

When Philip Briggs started backpacking about Uganda in 1988, two years after the end of the civil war, access to the Impenetrable Forest (now Bwindi Impenetrable National Park) was confined to a twice-weekly tractor-and-trailer and gorilla tracking cost the princely sum of US$1, access to the Impenetrable Forest (now Bwindi Impenetrable National Park) was limited to a twice-weekly tractor-and-trailer and He initially visited Uganda in 1992 to study the first edition of the Bradt Guide to Uganda, and he has returned multiple times since then, both to update the Bradt Guide and to organize tours. Apart from Uganda, Philip has contributed to various books, travel and wildlife periodicals, and has written and co-authored numerous Bradt guides to other African places. Andrew Roberts, a contributor to this edition, has lived and worked in Uganda since 1993. Andrew is always up to date on tourism developments in Uganda as the developer of the Uganda Maps series, which depicts parks, reserves, and other tourist destinations.
