The Uncoupling, The by Cauvery Madhavan
This is a dark and comic account of the disintegration of a marriage. Balu and Janaki Shankar are a typical, traditional, South Indian couple in their late fifties who have been married for thirty-three years in reasonable harmony. On their first ever trip to Britain their son is too busy to show them around and so books his parents on a sixteen-day coach tour of Europe. A two-night stop in Amsterdam leaves Balu struggling with an appetite for newly discovered sexual possibilities - with his wife, Janaki. And as the coach hurtles around Europe, the Shankars' marriage disintegrates.
Cauvery Madhavan is a former copywriter. Cauvery moved to Ireland 33 years ago and has been in love with the country ever since. She is the author of The Uncoupling and Paddy Indian.
