Born in Liverpool in 1909, E S Turner worked on newspapers in Glasgow before serving in the Royal Artillery during World War Two. A prolific contributor to Punch for over 50 years, he has also reviewed for the Sunday Telegraph, and three of his books, Boys Will be Boys (1948), Roads to Ruin (1950) and Call the Doctor (1958) were chosen for Foyle's Lunches. He lives in Surrey.
