With UK students being asked to pay large sums for a university education whose quality has been compromised by decades of under-funding, and with students from rich families being turned away in favour of kids from tough state schools, more and more are looking to the quality of courses, teaching and facilities available in the US. Enquiries to the US Educational Advisory Service rose seven-fold during 2003/4, and have already exceeded that total this year.
Alice Fishburn is a British student in her final year at Harvard. Co-writer Anthony Nemecek is Director of the US Educational Advisory Service in the UK. Stephen Baldock was High Master of St Paul's School in London 1992 - 2004.
