Julie Yip-Williams died of colorectal cancer in March 2018. She was born in Tam-Ky, Vietnam, near the end of the war, grew up in Monterey Park, California, and went on to Williams College and Harvard Law School. She was 42 years old when she died, and she lived in Brooklyn with her husband, Josh, and children Mia and Isabelle.
