Up Your Score by Larry Berger
The strategy guide with an attitude, "Up Your Score" is a test-prep book written for students by students. Smart, savvy, and serious--but funny, too--it proves itself as a guide that tackles the SAT in terms that students will immediately understand.Larry Berger was reared in a suburban brat factory north of Chicago by a child psychologist and a mail-order tycoon. Larry and his family relocated to the magnificent white sand beaches of Sarasota, Florida, after being permanently expelled from his local high school. At the age of fifteen, he ran away from home with two itinerant magazine salesmen who told him he could tour the world but took his money and abandoned him in a little Florida town after another year of school. Too proud to return home, he worked for a week on the salad line at a local cafeteria, earning $33, and hitchhiked across the country to experience the world on his own. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of seventeen, and in its infamous boot camp, he received an eye-opening introduction to ugh, discipline, and real life.
Larry earned a seminiferous education tending bar on the near-north-side of downtown Chicago after three years of global travel and an honorable discharge. He is finally getting around to sharing some of what he learnt growing up in the forties, fifties, sixties, seventies, eighties, and nineties, and the anti-climactic millennium transition into the twenty-first century, fifty years and seven children later (grandchildren: nine and counting). He's retired to his one-acre farm in West Virginia, where he coils up the rubber bands on his unmanned word drones and sends them out to demolish the sensibilities of unsuspecting readers.
