MajnooN Gorakhpuri was one of the most prominent critics, poets, translators and fiction writers of Urdu, who played an important role in providing critical theoretical foundations to progressive literature. MajnooN's eyes were also keen on western literature. He also translated some works of Oscar Wilde, Tolstoy, and Milton into Urdu. His fiction is a reminder of the era in which subtle prose was becoming popular and romanticism and sentimentality rather than rationalism were the main drivers of creative literature.
