The Usable Field by Jane Mead
These lyric elegies, spoken by the under-self, become a series of subtle chants which sing the speaker into being both physically and spiritually, and through which Mead seeks solace, enlightenment, and joy in the cycles of life and death in the natural world.
Jane Mead has published three collections of poetry, the most recent of which being The Usable Field, published by Alice James Books. Her poetry has appeared in numerous anthologies and periodicals, and she has received grants and awards from the Whiting, Guggenheim, and Lannan Foundations. She was Poet-in-Residence at Wake Forest University for many years, and now farms in northern California and teaches poetry and poetry in translation at Drew University's low-residency MFA program.
