Christopher Brickell is a renowned horticulturist and the former director general of the Royal Horticultural Society. For his contributions to horticulture, he received the RHS Victoria Medal of Merit in 1976, followed by the CBE in 1991. He was the former editor of The Plantsman and chaired the International Commission for the Nomenclature of Cultivated Plants. He has written several botanical and horticultural studies and articles and chaired the International Commission for the Nomenclature of Cultivated Plants. He was editor in chief for the first edition of Dorling Kindersley's bestselling Royal Horticultural Society Encyclopedia of Plants and Flowers (now in its fifth edition, with over a million copies sold in the UK) in 1990. The Royal Horticultural Society Encyclopedia of Gardening, Royal Horticultural Society A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants, and Royal Horticultural Society Pruning & Training were the next books on the list. Both the A-Z of Garden Plants and Pruning & Training have been completely updated by him.
