Owen McMahon Johnson (1878–1952) was an American writer best known for his stories and novels on the fictional character Dink Stover's educational and personal development. The Lawrenceville Tales (The Prodigious Hickey, The Tennessee Shad, The Varmint, Skippy Bedelle, The Hummingbird), based in the well-known prep school, call to mind Rudyard Kipling's Stalky and Co. They were the subject of a PBS mini-series in 1987. He was a member of the Yale University Class of 1900, graduating in 1901, marrying Mary Galt Stockly, and relocating to Paris, where he began his writing career.

During World War I, he worked as a war correspondent for the New York Times and Collier's magazine. In 1910, his first wife died. Esther Ellen Cobb (better known as Cobina Wright Junior) was his second wife, whom he married in 1912 and divorced in 1917. Cecile Denise de la Garde, his third wife, died in 1918.

Catherine Sayre Burton, his fourth wife, died in 1923. Gertrude Bovee Le Boutillier was his fifth wife. He was the father of five sons and daughters. From 1923 to 1948, Johnson worked and lived in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where he wrote about marriage, divorce, and golf.

Following 1931, his writing efforts waned, and he became more engaged in politics, seeking for the House of Representatives (unsuccessfully) in 1936 and 1938. He passed away at his house in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, where he had lived for the last five years. O'Connor's Other Works Arrows of the Almighty (1901), by Johnson.

In the Name of Liberty was released in 1905. Max Fargus was born in the year 1906. The Immortal Boy (a 'Lawrenceville' novella) was published in 1909. The Immortal Boy was reissued in 1910 as The Prodigious Hickey.

The Humming Bird (also one of the 'Lawrenceville' stories) was published in 1910. The Varmint (1910; Lawrenceville debut of Dink Stover). The Tennessee Shad (a 'Lawrenceville' story) was published in 1911. In 1912, Stover was a student at Yale.

Murder in Every Degree (1913; tales) is a collection of short stories about murder. The Sixty-first Second (a novel on the Panic of 1907; published in 1913). The Salamander is a film from the year 1913. Earning Money was released in the year 1915.

The Lady Provides is a film from the year 1915. The Soul of France (nonfiction) was published in 1916. Virtuous Wives was released in 1918. The Wasted Generation is a film from the year 1921.

Skippy Bedelle (as well as one of the 'Lawrenceville' legends) was born in the year 1922. Blue Blood is a film from the year 1923. Divorced Children (1927). Sacrifice was released in 1929.
