From just six weeks old, she was a fixture at steam rallies across Southern England, surrounded by her father’s collection of classic British motorcycles and stationary engines. While other children dreamed of sleek cars, Wendy’s heart was set on the majestic power of the traction engine.

This lifelong passion took a providential turn when she met her husband, Lloyd. His family legacy was steeped in steam; his great-great-grandfather, Walter Seward, had founded a thriving threshing and haulage business in 1886. At its peak, the Seward firm operated thirteen engines, including their very first purchase: a Marshall Agricultural Traction Engine named Victoria.

In a remarkable twist of fate, Wendy and Lloyd rediscovered the original Victoria in 1996. By 2002, they had brought her back into the family fold. It was during these early years of ownership, while watching her two children, Jack and Seren, fall under the spell of the "steam bug," that Wendy began crafting stories to read to them at bedtime.

What started as private family tales kept in a cupboard for years have now become Victoria’s Torton Tales. Today, Wendy continues to share the magic of Britain’s industrial heritage with a new generation. When she isn’t writing, you can find her at steam events across the UK with the real Victoria, bringing the "Sweet World of Torton" to life for fans young and old.
