The Viking Voyage by Judy Lomax
Re-creating the route of the first European discoverers of America, this book tells the story of the dramatic voyage of Gaia, a 75-foot replica Viking long-ship. Crossing the North Atlantic to mark the millenium of the first Norse landing in the New World, Gaia sailed to Iceland via Orkney and Shetland, and then, in an area notorious for storms, fog and pack-ice, she continued via Greenland and Labrador before anchoring in Newfoundland, off the first authenticated North American site of a Viking settlement. The author was a member of Gaia's crew. Her previous books include "Walking in the Clouds", "Women of the Air", "Hanna Reitsch" and "Sheila Scott: A Biography".EDITED BY
