Waiting at the Water's Edge by Lucinda Coxon

Waiting at the Water's Edge is a gripping new play by Lucinda Coxon. It opens with a chance meeting between two young girls, Vi and Su, on a North Wales beach. Their fates become entwined when they are both employed as servants in the same house. Vi forms a strange alliance with Will Couth, son of the house. The consequences of their relationship unfold with devastating results for those whose lives they touch. From the coast of Wales to the mining heartland of Nova Scotia, Waiting at the Water's Edge charts a magical voyage across time and continents. Constantly undermining traditional notions of male/female and master/servant roles, this play is frequently as thought provoking as it is entertaining. "A spiritual odyssey of considerable bleak majesty... a fey, mystical, poetic, self-regarding, precious and inventive new writer to watch" The Spectator "An odd, wild, ambitious play by Lucinda Coxon... if I were the betting type I would put money on her talent" The Sunday Times Lucinda Coxon was born in Derby in 1962. She has written plays for and worked with writers' groups at a number of theatres including Loose Exchange Theatre Co., the Royal Court, Tricycle, Cockpit and Bush Theatres. Waiting at the Water's Edge has been performed at the Bush Theatre as well as the Ohio Theatre Space in New York. Made in Wales produced the play in Wales in 1995. Her stage adaptation of Tarjei Vessaa's novel, The Ice Palace, was commissioned by the Royal National Theatre in 1994. Lucinda has also written a single drama for the BBC - Eddie's Proposal - and two feature screenplays: Spaghetti Show and Lily and the Secret Planting.
LUCINDA COXON's previous plays include Waiting at the Water's Edge and Wishbones, both seen at the Bush Theatre, London, and Happy Now?, seen at the National Theatre.
