Dr. T.L.Lowery (1929-2016) was born in Eastman, Georgia, and professed faith in Jesus Christ in 1943. Until 1969, he worked as a pastor and evangelist, preaching in large tent crusades around the country (his tent could seat ten thousand people) and in a number of foreign nations. Thousands of converts, stories of frequent divine healings, and untold numbers of people infused with the Holy Spirit were all part of his evangelism mission. Dr. Lowery was the pastor of two Church of God congregations, one in North Cleveland, Tennessee (1969-1974), and the other in Washington, D.C. (1981-1996), where he was the pastor of two churches that had substantial development and major construction projects.
His pastoral legacy included a focus on ministry to people from all walks of life. His pastoral leadership was instrumental in bringing personal evangelism, lay ministry, and local church outreach to the forefront of the denomination's consciousness. He provided shelter for the aged in both pastorates. He established an outstanding private Christian school, a Bible school, and a seminary in Washington.
Dr. Lowery is best known as a denominational leader, having served on the Church of God Executive Committee for sixteen years and the Executive Council for thirty-four years. He also served on the boards of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), and the Pentecostal Charismatic Churches of North America (PCCNA) as an interdenominational representative. He wrote or coauthored approximately 85 books, the majority of which were translated into many languages. He was also the editor of three journals and the author of numerous training books and essays.
In addition to having a Ph.D., He received honorary doctorates from two institutions in recognition of his achievements. The active preservation of apostolic ministry in the Church of God and the wider Pentecostal-charismatic community was Dr Lowery's passion in personal ministry and mentorship activities. He had a large number of spiritual sons and daughters who were saved, called to ministry, and mentored by him.
Dr. Lowery was a minister for more than seventy years, and the T. His legacy is carried on through the L.Lowery Global Foundation in Cleveland, Tennessee.
