War Music by Christopher Logue
"War Music" is Christopher Logue's version of Books 16-19 of Homer's "Iliad". Logue is author of "Patrocleia", a rendition of Book 16 of this poem, much praised by Henry Miller and others for its attempt to remain faithful to the essential Greekness of the old poem, yet draw the characters with clarity and vitality. The author, Christopher Logue, is a poet, playwright, scriptwriter and actor. His collections of poetry include "Songs", "Twelve Cards", "Logue's ABC" and "New Numbers". He is the editor of the following anthologies: "The Children's Book of Comic Verse", "London in Verse", "Sweet and Sour" and "Edible Gold".
Christopher Logue was born in 1926. He was educated at Prior Park College, Bath, and at Portsmouth Grammar School. He served as a private in the Black Watch and spent sixteen months in an army prison. His publications include several volumes of poetry and a pornographic novel. He lives in London with his wife, the critic Rosemary Hill. The first collection of his reinterpretation of Homer's Iliad, War Music, was shortlisted for the 2002 Griffin Poetry Prize; Cold Calls, the fifth instalment of the War Music series, won the Whitbread Poetry Prize in 2005.
