Company of Angels' artistic director, John Retallack, has written and directed a number of plays in recent years. From 1989 to 1999, John served as the artistic director of Oxford Stage Company, where his adaptation of Melvyn Burgess' Junk won the TMA Young People's Award in 1998. Throughout a ten-year period, his Shakespeare plays for Oxford Stage Company toured abroad and received significant critical praise. From 1977 through 1985, he was the founding director of Actors Touring Company (ATC). Many awards have been given to his work, including a SWET award in 1983 and a Herald Angel at the 2001 Edinburgh Festival.
