WESTLAND AIRCRAFT SINCE 1915 by Derek James

This text describes all the military and civil aircraft built by Westland since the N.1B single-seat seaplane. The helicopters, built now in close collaboration with Sikorsky, and used by armed forces throughout the world, are described in detail. Westland began by building numerous de Havilland, Short, Sopwith and Vickers types before embarking on its own designs. There followed a wide variety of types, military and civil, some long-forgotten and others still remembered with affection. These include the ungainly Walrus, the impossible-to-describe Dreadnought, the Widgeons, several Pterodactyls, the beautifully proportioned Wizard, the famous Wapiti, the Wallace, Lysander, Whirlwind, Welkin and Wyvern. The first aeroplanes to fly over Everest came from the Westland stable.
James, Derek N.: - A Gloster Aircraft Company engineering apprenticeship began Derek James' lifetime service to aviation in the ATC, Royal Observer Corps, Royal Navy and RAF, the SBAC and the Dowty Group. He is the author of nineteen aviation books and has participated in many television and radio programmes and in the 1980's and 1990's was the voice at many air shows throughout the country.
