WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND by Andy Hutchings

This fascinating collection of old and new views explores the histories of Weymouth and Portland. Edwin Seward was a pioneer in news photography, recording many dramatic scenes long before photographs were even a feature of newspapers. This book draws upon his postcard views, and reveals both towns as they appeared at the dawn of the age of the motorcar. Many of the scenes in this book have changed dramatically over the last century, but many others will be instantly recognisable today. Accompanied by informative and entertaining captions exploring the histories of Weymouth and of the Isle of Portland, this nostalgic collection will delight both residents and visitors alike.
Geoffrey Pritchard was born in Weymouth and was educated at Weymouth Grammar School and Bournemouth College of Technology. His career in local government spanned thirty-seven years until he retired in 2003 as Senior Committee Administrator. Andy Hutchings was also born in Weymouth and served for 24 years as member of Weymouth and Portland Borough Council. He is an Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Weymouth and Portland, and a member of Employment Tribunals panels. He is a Weymouth--Bristol Rail Partnership Collector of postcards by Edwin Seward
