Why Is That Art? addresses common questions that viewers raise about contemporary art: Why is that art? Why is it in an art museum? Who says it's art? If I did this, would it be art? Why is it good? Terry Barrett is a Professor of Art Education at The Ohio State University, where he also holds a joint appointment in the Department of Art. He has received a distinguished teaching award for his work in education critique and aesthetics. Interpreting Art: Reflecting, Wondering, and Reacting; Criticizing Art: Understanding the Modern (2nd ed. ); Criticizing Photographs: An Introduction to Understanding Pictures (4th ed. ); and Talking about Student Art are the four books he has written. He has papers in Aesthetic Education, Afterimage, Art Education, Camera-Lucida, Dialogue, Cultural Research in Art Education, New Advocate, New Art Examiner, Studies in Art Education, Teaching Artist Journal, Theory into Practice, Visual Arts Research, and several chapters in edited books. He works for the Ohio Arts Council as an art critic in education, consults museum education departments, juries exhibitions, and teaches workshops on studio critiques and writing.
