Wide Woman on a Narrow Boat by Stephanie Green
If you're thinking of making the life-changing decision of moving from a house to live on a narrow boat it is wise to do your research. Spend time holidaying on a boat, look at as many boats as possible, read the magazines and the books that give an idea of pitfalls and costs and speak to people about the life-style. Either that or just go out and buy a boat.Which is what the author did and then to make life a bit more 'interesting' decided to make the maiden voyage alongside another novice boater: her ex-husband. That decision increased the steepness of the learning curve and quickly dissipated the illusion of life aboard a narrow boat being serene and tranquil.
But she survived that first journey along the River Nene and the Great Ouse, survived a harsh winter and went on to love and sometimes hate life aboard. This is the story of travelling the water-ways, of towns and countryside, of the wild-life both human and natural. The story of getting it right and getting it wrong and of plans not going to plan.
Green, Stephanie: - Stephanie Green is a young woman with big dreams. At a very young age she decided she would go to Africa to serve the poor children. That dream was dashed when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age nine. After three surgeries and a lot of heartache, she was left with seizures and other physical setbacks. As a result of the invasive surgeries, she went from being an honor student to being in special education. However this did not stop Stephanie from dreaming about how she could help children less fortunate than herself. As a way to cope with her setbacks, Stephanie discovered her love for writing poetry. She began to express herself though Children's poetry. She has written her first children's poetry book called Paint For Me a Picture. The book was designed so that a poem is on one page with the facing page left blank so the child can use their imagination to draw a picture to coincide with the poem. The book becomes a collaborative and personalized keepsake for years to come. Stephanie hopes to continue on with her passion and write another book in the near future. While her initial dream of helping children in Africa has changed, she continues to passionately help the less fortunate children right here in the U.S. Her wish is to use the profits from this book to build a tree house resort hotel. She wants to invite less fortunate children to be her guest for an adventure and fun. This way, she can use her Early Child Development Degree from Allen Hancock College to benefit her young clients. Stephanie is currently receiving support from the Tri-counties Regional Center in San Luis Obispo California and hopes to gain employment through Pathpoint services in San Luis Obispo in the near future.
