Wildlife SOS by Simon Cowell

Wildlife Aid's Simon Cowell and his staff deal with more than 12,000 wildlife incidents each year. From a hedgehog trapped in a freezer, to a little owl colliding with a 17-ton lorry, there are not many rescue situations that he has not had to deal with. Wildlife Aid is Britain's leading wildlife rehabilitation centre and, as such, has become the subject of the enormously successful television series Wildlife SOS. Having been on our screens for over eight years, it is adored by both adults and children for its educational information, its heart-warming rescue stories and of course for its down-to-earth humour. As Simon himself says, 'Being bitten by badgers, kicked by deer and "taloned" by owls is all in a day's work, but it still really hurts!'
Having left his job as a commodity broker in London, Simon Cowell founded Wildlife Aid in 1980. It is now one of Britain's leading wildlife rehabilitation centres. In 1996, Wildlife Aid began appearing in the television programme Wildlife SOS. Ten years on, it is still going strong and has been shown on ITV, Channel 5 and The Discovery Channel. In 2003 Simon was awarded Personality of the Year by the Charity Times and, with a suitably bemused expression, still insisits that he remains mystified as to why he should need another personality when he alreasy has quite an adequate one thank you very much (so he thinks, anyway)! In June 2005 Simon was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list fo his services to wildlife. Growing up at Wildlife Aid made Lou Cowell very popualr amongst her peers at school, although she remained constantly baffled as to why 'tea at the Cowell's' should be such a sought-after invitation, with its various four-legged and feathered inhabitants residing everywhere from hutches under the dresser, to the kitchen door atop which perched an ageing barn owl. Discovering music to be within her from an early age, Lou follwed her heartt and, combining it with her intrinsic love of words, is now an accomplsihed singer/songwriter recently signed to Chrysalis. Balancing her life between her beloved piano, 'the call of the wild', and a rather incongruent passion for martial arts, Lou continues to work at Wildlife Aid, while embarking on the recording of her forthcoming debut album.
