Born and brought up in Inverness, Scotland, John Garvey attended the Inverness Royal Academy. He then studied physics at Glasgow University, followed by working as a Research Associate at Oxford University. After more than thirty years at Birmingham University, he retired as Professor of Particle Physics. Having always had an interest in art, John has been fascinated with the work of William Daniell since discovering him in 1969.
