The Winner's Enclosure by Annie Caulfield
A comical and idiosyncratic account of the author's quest to find her Irish family connections in Australia, where she encounters a wide range of bizarre characters. The result is a snapshot of modern Australia which also sheds light on a past that has its contradictions and complexities.
Annie Caulfield wrote the Grim Tales series, many sketches for The Real McCoy, episodes of This Life, jokes for Comic Relief, and writes for Aardman's Planet Scetch. She has written jokes and plays for Lenny Henry and once made a documentary in Africa with Spice Girl, Mel B. Sometimes Annie co-hosts a radio chat show with Sandi Toksvig, but for a lot of the time she lives in a cave house in Spain, thinking up stories and learning to ride a horse without falling off.
