Winter Butterfly by Alice Renton

Mrs Rokeby-Jones lives alone at the family home, Bloomfield. She wants to stay there, but her children want to move her into "more suitable" accommodation, hoping to get their hands on her estate. When she walks out of Bloomfield, they find she has indeed left, though not in the way they had hoped.
Brought up in Ayrshire, Alice Renton worked at a variety of jobs before moving, after her marriage, to Canada. On returning home two years later she settled in Sussex with her husband: they have five children, all now adults. Her husband, Tim Renton, who is also a writer, was an MP for many years. Alice splits her time between Sussex and London, with holidays largely spent in her native Scotland.
