Prof. Dr. Friedemann Mattern ist Professor für Informatik an der ETH Zürich und leitet dort das Fachgebiet 'Verteilte Systeme'. Er war zuvor als Professor an der Universität des Saarlandes in Saarbrücken und an der Technischen Universität Darmstadt tätig, wo er u.a. das Graduiertenkolleg 'Infrastruktur für den elektronischen Markt' gründete. Mit seinem Ruf an die ETH Zürich im Jahr 1999 begann er mit dem Aufbau einer Forschungsgruppe für Ubiquitous Computing und ist seitdem an Industriekooperationen und europäischen Forschungsprojekten zu diesem Thema beteiligt. Seine Lehrtätigkeit umfasst die Gebiete verteilte Systeme und Algorithmen, Rechnernetze, Ubiquitous Computing sowie Grundlagen der Informatik.
