Within the Mist by Colin Beazley
Our story centres on the strange folk that inhabit the unusual fishing village of Doon. Fisherman Archie braves the wild seas to make a living whilst his wife, Stella, plays around with her 'little' fancy man. Doris is the proprietor of the seafront store where all but gossip is rationed. Police Constable Doyle is fully occupied tracking down the fiendish and mysterious criminal behind the strange explosions and Molly, the barmaid at The Ship, enjoys a number of 'close encounters'. The once close twins Carl and Bernard, lead odd and lonely lives in their shack on the beach, lives that will eventually be the death of one of them. Throughout the twists and turns of village life the story follows the adventures of Dilly, our heroine, and daughter of Seth, a rather obsessive lighthouse keeper. One day, whilst walking on the beach in the early morning mist, she catches sight of a young man, a stranger. Over time their relationship flourishes and the young man, Axel, reveals the true reason for his presence in this God forsaken place that is Doon.
A masterful style, lovely, evocative portrayal of wartime village life, entertaining and enjoyable
Living in the wilds of Devon, Colin gains much inspiration from this landscape and also his time spent in The Hebrides. He is a collector of many things, including ideas, which stimulate his imagination and writing. His book, 'One Day in June', has been an Amazon best seller, and 'Within the Mist', is the opening story of his trilogy about the strange fishing village of Doon. 'The Tale of Two Elephants', is a short illustrated story for older children and adults and used extensively within primary schools. Colin is busily compiling his collection of short stories for publication at the end of 2014, and writing his latest novel, a thriller set way up in the frozen north focussing on events that took place during the Cold War.
