Tsultrim Allione is one of the most well-known female Buddhist instructors in the West today. She obtained her master's degree in Buddhism/Women's Studies from Antioch University and was one of the first Western women to be ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist nun. She has been a practicing Buddhist for around thirty years and has taught all over the world, focusing on developing teaching approaches that help Westerners comprehend Buddhism. She is the founder and director of Tara Mandala, a Pagosa Springs, Colorado-based retreat facility that has been dubbed one of the most vibrant new Buddhist centers in North America. Allione was awarded the Distinguished Women in Buddhism Award in 2009.
