Jim Cogley, with twenty-five years experience of working in this area, combines the wisdom of spirituality and psychology, with the discipline of wood turning, to provide a multitude of fascinating symbols, life changing insights and some valuable resources for healing. Readers comments: The Ancestral Self adds an exciting new dimension to tracing your family tree. For years I have been reading self-help books and searching for answers. Now I am finally asking the right questions. The Ancestral Self is the book that many are waiting for. It contains so many keys for making sense of our lives. I never realized that a lifelong burden was older than myself and could be lifted. This is one book that delivers much more than it promises.

Pacific Book Review (This title has earned the Starred Review):

Wood You Believe: The Ancestral Self is a fantastic book. The tales told in the book and the theories explained help us discover ourselves and understand our being. The author did a good job in writing about real life topics. He also touched on suicide, which is sometimes seen as a sensitive subject. His reference of the remembrance bowl when talking about suicide and helping victims was amazing.

The author wrote an incredible book. Every discussion is of importance in our day to day life. He chose the relevant subjects that not only act as a guide but are also important to humans. The writing style is commendable and the diction is wonderful. The drawings of wooden images also spiced up the text. I recommend this book to any avid reader, as there is a lot to learn from the author.

Cogley, Father Jim: - Fr Jim Cogley was born in Wexford in 1954. He trained for the priesthood in St Patrick's College Maynooth, where he took degrees in English, Philosophy and Theology. Ordained in 1980 for the Diocese of Ferns in Ireland, he has a deep love of the sea and for many years was involved with the work of Sea Chaplaincy. Formerly based in Kilmore Quay for most of his pastoral life and then in Oylegate, he is currently Parish Priest and Director of Pilgrimage in Our Lady's Island. He has many years teaching experience and is a counselling supervisor. As a psychotherapist, he trained in the Jungian tradition. His particular area of interest is that of Intergenerational Healing and how the past that is unacknowledged can still influence the present. His innovative, self-taught woodworking skills, developed in recent years, provide a unique opportunity to present the age-old truths of life and spirituality in the form of symbols that speak to the soul. Many of the seminars he conducts throughout the country on topics such as those covered in the Wood you Believe series, involve the use of such symbols. His concept of a Memorial Trail and Garden to people lost at sea, located in Kilmore Quay, Raphael's Healing Garden in Oylegate, along with the new Grotto to Our Lady of the Knots and the Resurrection Garden in Our Lady's Island, are now major visitor attractions. Vol 1&2 is the first in the Wood You Believe series, with the most recent publication, Vol 8 The Grieving Self published in 2018.
