Working with Attachment Difficulties in School-Aged Children by Sue Jennings

Creative, playful approaches to working with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties in children who have experienced developmental trauma. This practical resource book provides a wealth of easy-to-use playful and creative activities, ideas and techniques to enable you to help younger children to enhance and build healthy relationships with their families and peers. Children who have experienced developmental and relational trauma will often experience social, emotional and behavioural difficulties including emotional dysregulation, social isolation, anti-social or extreme behaviours and consequent poor interpersonal relationships and low school achievement. Drawing on the latest developments in attachment theory and neuroscience, Sue Jennings explores how Neuro-Dramatic-Play and Embodiment-Projection-Role can use multi-sensory, rhythmic and dramatic play to enable children to better build relationships and regulate their emotions. This accessible and user-friendly collection includes practical and creative activities and exercises, photocopiable worksheets and appraisal, together with accessible attachment theory and the neuroscience of emotions and brain development.
Dr Sue Jennings was awarded the lifetime title 'Professor of Play' by the European Federation of Dramatherapy for her pioneering work in Dramatherapy and Neuro-Dramatic-Play (NDP). She is Honorary Professor at the University of Derby and Honorary Fellow at the University of Roehampton. Sue runs training courses worldwide in Neuro-Dramatic-Play which emphasises the importance of early playfulness for attachment and the development of empathy and resilience and is also important in addressing the effects of trauma and abuse. She is the author of a large number of books on the therapeutic use of drama, arts and play, many of which have ben published in translation.
