The World Of Minack by Derek Tangye

Reflecting the years the author spent at Minack in Cornwall with his wife, before she died in 1986, this book contains a selection of favourite passages, many of them chosen by readers, from 16 of the Minack Chronicles . It highlights significant thoughts and incidents in the Minack story - the first discovery of the small grey cottage on the cliff that was to become the Tangyes' home, disasters suffered and hazards overcome in the struggle to earn a living from the potato and flower farm, the cats and donkeys who were so integral a part of the Tangyes' lives, the vicissitudes of the season, and calm moments of reflection by the cliffs and the rocks and the sea.
** 'Somehow or other I missed out on Derek Tangye and all his worksl and THE WORLD OF MINACK sat me down slack jawed with admiration and surprise.. There are sad bits, which is right and proper for "a good read" but mostly it is a happy saga; you will hear the gulls, smell the salt spray, see the nodding daffodils and laugh and cry all the way through. You could not want more. Dirk Bogarde
Derek Tangye was educated at Harrow and subsequently worked as a journalist on national newspapers. During and after the war he was a member of MI5 before he and his wife moved to Minack. He died in 1997.
