The Worm Who Knew Karate by Jill Lever

Literary Nonfiction. Edited and introduced by Roger Scott. In 1941 David Gascoyne planned an anthology of prose extracts, The Naked Eye, which was to include a LETER TO AN ADOPTED GODFATHER. The anthology itself was one of the poet's numerous abandoned projects, but the letter to Henry Miller did survive in typescript and is here published for the first time. LETER TO AN ADOPTED GODFATHER is an eloquent, moving and naked piece of writing, almost shocking in the excoriating honesty of Gascoyne's rigorous self-examination. This epistle chimes with the most memorable extended entries in the Journals where he indulges at times in masochistic introspection and records, as here, periods of acute emotional and spiritual crises.
Jill Lever is originally from England but has spent the last 20 years living and working in France, Egypt, Peru and Australia. While pursuing a successful career in business she also maintained a passion for writing, teaching, and drama, and after training as an actor with the Victoria College of Arts, she began producing scripts for one-act plays. Jill's interest in children's fiction started with stories for her own children and grew through teaching French to Australian primary school children, and supporting reading schemes for young refugees. Terry Denton has been creating children's books for over 30 years. He has worked with many of Australia's top authors, written much-loved picture books and junior fiction novels, won more than 40 children's choice awards and been shortlisted many times in the Children's Book Council of Australia awards. His Felix and Alexander won Picture Book of the Year in 1986. His books include The Upside-down History of Downunder with Alison Lloyd, as well as the Gasp! books and the animated TV series, and the world-famous Just! books and Treehouse series with Andy Griffiths.
