WRITER ON HER WORK V2 CL by J Sternburg

In 1980, the ground-breaking anthology The Writer on Her Work appeared, a collection of essays about what it means to be a woman who writes. Now, in a second volume, Janet Sternburg has again commissioned essays from novelists, poets, and nonfiction writers from abroad as well as from the United States.

Janet Sternburg is a writer, poet, memoirist, playwright, filmmaker, and photographer who has been dubbed a Renaissance lady for her vision. Optic Nerve: Photopoems (Red Hen 2005) is one of her books, in which she incorporates images with her poetry to create visual stanzas. Molly Peacock writes in the prologue to Optic Nerve, Her photopoems revolutionize both poetry and photography. Sternburg provides a meditation in Phantom Limb: A Memoir (American Lives Series, University of Nebraska Press 2002) in which she posits that we all have phantom limbs--someone who is no longer with us but remains a part of us. Her novel has been dubbed the ultimate metaphor for by Bill Moyers.

...life's ultimate inevitabilities. Additional works include The Writer on Her Work: Volumes One and Two (WW Norton and Co.) and The Writer on Her Work: Volumes Three and Four (WW Norton and Co.). Both were described as ground-breaking in 1981 and 2002, respectively. ...chosen for inclusion in 500 Great Books by Women by Poets & Writers magazine.

Volume one has been in print for twenty-eight years and was just re-released by W. In a special twentieth-anniversary edition, W.Norton. She recently concluded the second chapter of the trilogy that began with Phantom Limb, My Zombies: A Family Memoir.
