Writing Your Life by Patti Miller
Our stories tell us, and others, what is significant and valuable about us. Our stories validate who we are: they are our personal myths. This book explores the mystery and practice of writing your life story. It is a book about discovering yourself, about making more of your life and about writing it. It offers motivation and inspiration and gives practical suggestions, topics and writing techniques, such as: how to get started, how to access memory, point-of-view, how to make the pieces "hang together", and how to make the events "come to life" so your story is more than just a list of incidents. The book also explores the issues which arise when you write your life, such as selective memory, emotional pain and growth, communicating your spiritual and philosophic truths. Overall it is a book about undestanding and telling your life story.
Patti Miller is a writer and teacher. Having taught general writing classes for ten years, Patti realised many people wanted to write their life story and designed workshops especially for them. This book grew out of those workshops and brings to a wide audience the techniques and skills which have inspired Patti's students.
