The BISD is the official, one-stop source for documents pertaining to the operation and scope of the World Trade Organization (WTO). It contains the Protocols for Accession for new WTO member nations along with other legal instruments. The WTO BISD is co-published by the World Trade Organization and Bernan Press.

The World Trade Organization (WTO), located in Geneva, deals with the global rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world's trading nations and ratified in their parliaments. The goal of the WTO is to help the producers of goods and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business as smoothly and freely as possible.

Marc Bacchetta is a Chief of Section in the Economic Research and Statistics Division of the World Trade Organization in Geneva.

Matthias Helble is an Economist in the Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department of the Asian Development Bank in Manila, and an ADBI Adjunct Fellow at the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo.
