In a long career that encompassed work on feature films, plays, novels, animation, radio, and television, Arnold Drake wrote nearly 2,000 comics stories. Drake, who was born in 1924, debuted in the comics industry in 1950 with a ground-breaking project: the picture novel That Rhymes with Lust from St. He co-wrote John Publishing with Leslie Waller. This paperback comic book, a forerunner to the modern graphic novel, used pulp crime novels and film noir as a framework for what Drake envisioned as a new medium of genre cinema on paper.
