The book was written to mark the 20th anniversary of Israeli occupation of the West Bank of the Jordan River following the Six Day War in June 1967, and is translated here from the Hebrew.
David Grossman is the author of two novels, a collection of short stories and three children's books. He has won severn awards, including Israel's Publishers Association's prize for best novel in Hebrew (1985) and Prime Minister's Prize for Hebrew Literature (1984). He lives with his family in Jerusalem.
