Zoo in the Sky by Jacqueline Mitton
This magical picture-information book, featuring constellations named after animals, birds and fishes, introduces young children to an astonishing zoo in the sky. The author is a distinguished writer and lecturer on astronomy, and the vivid, poetic text is accompanied by glowing illustrations, accurate in detail. The descriptive text is supplemented by sky maps on the endpapers and information on the location and movement of stars in the sky and the history of the constellations. Zoo in the Sky is a striking gift book and an educational tour de force, combining facts with imagination, to fascinate children aged 5 and up.
Dr Jacqueline Mitton holds an MA in physics from the University of Oxford and a Doctorate in astrophysics from the University of Cambridge. A distinguished writer on astronomy, she is also the Public Relations Officer for the Royal Astronomical Society. Christina Balit trained at Chelsea School of Art and the Royal College of Art. Her involvement with fringe theatre, both as a playwright and performer, has strongly influenced her illustrative work.
