The first Britons to reach Zululand were a handful of shipwrecked traders. They found themselves completely at the mercy of a nation whose name would become a byword for ferocity and courage. He lives in Kwa-Zulu Natal and enjoys access to all the historical battlefields of the area.

Lock, Ron: - Ron Lock was born and educated in the U.K. In his early 20's he travelled to East Africa and served in the Rift Valley Troop of The Kenya Police. He has journeyed widely in Africa and on one occasion travelled rough, by rail, lorry and paddle steamer from Mombasa, up to the Great Lakes of Central Africa and down the Nile, to Cairo. He has written and co-authored a number of books on the Anglo Zulu and Boer Wars. For many years he operated as a tour guide to the Anglo Zulu and Boer War battlefields. He now lives in Port Edward, kwaZulu Natal, with his wife, Brenda.
