Learning Pharmacology Through Multiple Choice Questions Summary

Learning Pharmacology Through Multiple Choice Questions: A Comprehensive Text by B.J. Large

Learning Pharmacology through MCQ A Comprehensive Text Second Edition B. J. Large and I. E. Hughes Department of Pharmacology, University of Leeds, UK The multiple choice question in its variety of formats has become increasingly popular with examiners in medicine and science. Students and teachers have now become thoroughly accustomed to this method of assessment, and countless numbers of books exist which offer collections of MCQ on every subject for students to use when preparing for examinations. Learning Pharmacology through MCQ is not simply another MCQ book. The authors, each with over two decades of experience in teaching pharmacology to medical and science students, have adapted and developed the MCQ concept to combine the functions of both examining and teaching. Their MCQs can be used in the traditional way for self-assessment and revision, but perhaps the chief value of the book lies in the detailed explanatory text which accompanies each MCQ. Because the subjects are grouped together conventionally as in a systematic pharmacology course, when read consecutively the explanations build up into a comprehensive textbook of pharmacology. Furthermore, a study of the text reveals how each of the answers may logically be derived from the basic information. This second edition has been totally revised and updated to include new information in those areas where rapid changes have occurred such as central and peripheral neuropharmacology, autacoids and allergy, etc. The book is intended for students of medicine and science, and covers clinical pharmacology as well as laboratory practice. It will also be useful in providing ideas and material for use by teaching staff and examiners. Other related books from Wiley include: Learning Physiology Through MCQ Mary L. Forsling (1998) ISBN 0 471 91026 0 Learning Psychiatry through MCQ Tom Sensky (1988) ISBN 0 471 91896 2
