Designing for the Knitting Machine Summary

Designing for the Knitting Machine by Bea Poulter

This book offers advice on how to design and make a basic garment on the knitting machine, which can be adapted for all the other styles included. Over 20 patterns are provided with explanations of the techniques required for each and advice is given on shaping, styling and adapting garment patterns. The book is designed to appeal to machine knitters at intermediate level (single-bed machines). It is intended that knitters build up confidence with the machine by working sequentially through the book, but they can also branch out using the methods described to produce many possible variations. Bea Poulter is a part-time teacher of machine knitting. In 1983 she was awarded a Churchill Travelling fellowship to visit Montana, USA, to study women's organizations and their crafts.
