The Shepherd's Song Summary

The Shepherd's Song: A Story of Second Chances by Betsy Duffey

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures...Shortly before a tragic car accident, Kate McConnell writes down the powerful words of Psalm 23 on a piece of paper for her wayward son. Just before she loses consciousness, Kate wonders if she's done enough with her life and prays, 'Please, let my life count.' Unbeknown to Kate, her handwritten copy of Psalm 23 soon begins a remarkable journey around the world. From a lonely dry cleaning employee to a soldier wounded in Iraq, to a young Kurdish girl fleeing her country, to a Kenyan runner in the Rome marathon, this humble message forever changes the lives of twelve very different people. Eventually, Kate's paper makes it back to its starting place, and she discovers the unexpected ways that God changes lives, even through the smallest gestures. With beautiful prose and a 'pass it on' message reminiscent of THE SHACK, this story will touch your heart and remind you of the ways God works through us to reach beyond what we can imagine.

The Shepherd's Song Reviews

THE SHEPHERD'S SONG is one of the most unusual and delightful books I have ever read. It hooked my attention from the first page and held it to the last! This is a truly beautiful book which displays the power of God's Word in our modern world, and its remarkable ability to change the lives of people today. Utterly refreshing! A glorious book. -- Jennifer Rees Larcombe, author of JOURNEY INTO GOD'S HEART and A YEAR'S JOURNEY WITH GOD Jennifer Rees Larcombe I found it remarkably compelling from the outset. Rarely have I read a novel which so poignantly juxtaposes tragedy with hope without becoming excessively sentimental or mawkish. It is an effortless read, but not an easy one - harrowing and uplifting by turns, it is impossible not to be moved by its artlessly engaging narrative. The characters are believable and likeable, each one deftly painted with a few expert strokes. The chain of connected storylines convincingly shows how one simple and apparently futile act of love can release a deluge of redemption and reconciliation. It is sure to challenge the assumptions of readers with a religious faith and those without. I loved it. -- Author Jill Hudson This book is unique and more than just an enjoyable read - I heartily recommend it. -- Claire Musters Christian Today It is a book for the head and the heart. -- SUSAN SANDERSON Sue's Trifles An imaginative and inspiring story Woman Alive This is an amazing book of short interconnected stories all based around a handwritten copy of the 23rd Psalm ... It's definitely the book I'm recommending and hand-selling in my shop for the next few months! It's a wonderfully crafted story -- Melanie Carroll Together Magazine I really recommend this book. My husband has heard me talk about how much I love this book so much that he is planning on reading it next. If I could I would probably buy several copies and give out to friends and family - I liked it that much. I hope Betsy and Laurie write another novel together. -- Anita Hunt www.scatterthestones.co.uk
