This book provides an introduction to laboratory testing techniques in soil mechanics. Each chapter outlines the appropriate soil mechanics theory and the purpose of various tests. This is followed by details of the test procedure and an explanation of the equipment used. The second edition has been enlarged to include more comprehensive information on compaction tests, sheer strengths and classification tests. A new appendix on the Standard Penetration Test for in situ testing and tables of soil properties have also been added.
