Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849 - 1924) was born in England and lived as an adult in both England and America. She wrote mainly for adults but is best known for her children's books. Her books include 'Little Lord Fauntleroy' and 'The Secret Garden'. U C Knoepflmacher is professor of English and Paton Foundation Professor of Ancient and Modern Literature at Princeton.
