A Beginner's Guide to Knitting on a Loom Summary

A Beginner's Guide to Knitting on a Loom: With Over 30 Fun Projects by Isela Phelps

If you have struggled to knit with needles, loom knitting is an easy craft to master - children and adults alike can learn in a few hours.
Loom knitting is a revolutionary way of knitting that uses a circular or rectangular loom, or knitting board, consisting of a frame with pegs. Looms are easy and fun to use, even without conventional knitting experience. You can create almost anything, from knitted tubes for hats or socks to flat panels for scarves, shawls and sweaters.
This book is designed as an essential reference and a hands-on project resource for the loom knitter. Throughout the book you will find loom-knitting techniques for both round and rectangular looms, together with practice projects. An inspiring design section presents more than 30 patterns to get you started in your new loom-knitting adventure. Also included is a guide to the similarities between loom knitting and needle knitting, and a glossary of techniques.

Here is a knitting book with a difference, and not a knitting needle in sight. If you think you can't knit, or fancy trying something new then how about giving loom knitting a go? These simple plastic looms are a larger version of the old knitting Nancy so many of us played with as children, but can be used to make all manner of useful and attractive items.

I had heard of these items, but had never seen one until I opened this book. In here you will find all sorts of useful advice on how to choose one, what yarns to use, other items you need to obtain and of course what to do with it. There are projects for mats, hats, socks, baby sweater, blankets, scarves and more to keep you warm in winter and give away as gifts. Learn how to do cable stitch on a loom, make cords, and work in patterns such as Fair Isle and more. There is even a section on felting with typical Search Press thoroughness. Like me you will probably start knowing nothing and finish knowing...enough to make some practical items, which is what a primer like this is all about (or ought to be). The large, colored photos show in easy stages how it is done, and manages to answer most likely questions about things like tension, choosing yarns, how to use the various items that are bought with the looms and more. I haven't seen another book on this subject so maybe it is unique (at least in the UK) and certainly another beginner's book is not needed.
